I can't forget that very day it happened because I actually learnt something from the situation.
We were more than 10 in class that day, as we were expecting our lecturer. Everyone was busy revising his/her notes when I heard a voice from my back reciting Muslims rhymes.
I turned back to see who was that and to know, if I was the only one who noticed it. It happened that it was Shuiab and I was surprised to see how engrossed he was with the rhymes that he had forgotten that he was in the class and didn't notice people were looking at him.
He has totally forgotten himself as his voice went higher and higher. At a point, I felt he was disturbing the class but I realized I was the only one having that thought. At the same time, I was surprised because he was unashamed of his religion.
In the midst of thought, a question pop into my mind....How much more Christian? How many Christians do we have that are unashamed of their religion. Any time, any day?
Shuiab didn't even care if he was in a public area and he finished his rhyme unashamedly. While some Christian you are listening to a tongue fire song and just because someone remove one side of your earpiece from your ear and put it into his/her ear. You immediately change the song because you don't want to be called names...Pastor, apostle, etc but for how long are you going to be ashamed?
I was also at a place on Friday and that area happens to be where all this Mallam stays with a mosque beside the road and I was searching for a bike. I eventually found one and we negotiated on the amount I should pay. As I was about to enter the bike, he asked "Abeg, wetin be the time?(Please, what is the time?.
I told him the time and he said " Ooh, I no go now. I get prayer (I can't go now. I have prayers) and he begged me. Still at the same spot, not up to 5minutes I saw many bikes as they all came for different places, pack their bikes and went to pray. Some even had to leave their passenger to pray. The most surprising one, was the bike man who packed his bike on the bridge and he found a spot to pray and others who could not get to the mosque on time, joined him.
Hmmm,
All I saw that day were people consistent with prayers. It doesn't matter who they are because they are unashamed of their religion and then, we wonder why Muslims are sometimes getting the result. If you are close to Muslims who are diligent and consistent in prayer you will understand me better.
I met a lady of recent, she prays twice in a day in the office. The day we talked, she said she told the man who employed her that she will be praying twice in a day and if he didn't agree, then she can't work here and the man agreed...
Kai,
How much more Christians? Someone will be jejely doing evangelism in the bus and Christians who are there will be mocking or even trying to correct that person. Some will even be ashamed... Why?
We need to rise and live unashamedly. We have to be proud of our religion. We don't have to be ashamed seen praying publicly.
Some people in their office, they can't lead prayer when called to pray OR When they ask someone to lead the people in prayers. Some don't even want the people to know they are Christian.
I was in a gathering last week, the people there were singing their song and I plugged in my earpiece, listening and singing my own song and someone asked who was singing and a guy pointed to me. Then the person smiled and said "Awon eyan to Jesu (People of God)" I continued listening to my song as the guy was looking at me.
My dear sister,
Please, you don't have to be ashamed of the God you serve.
No, instead let people want to serve God by what they see that you do and your character.
While, I looked at those Muslims, I love how they love their religion and I prayed God should fill the hearts of Christians with His love. That we are consumed by the Love of God.
It's not enough that God should love us. We should also love Him and desire to make Him known to everyone we meet.
Even without coming to ask you about your religion. Let people know who you are and who you represent. Also, let's represent God unashamedly.
I pray God help us in Jesus name...Amen!
